Working with distortions

When we are being triggered by something or someone’s actions or words, it means that that distortion is inside of us and that person or event was just an external stimulus to something that was previously existing inside of us in the form of a distorted understanding of life and its neutrality.

I believe that there was a traumatic event in everyone’s childhood or youth in which we felt low, hurt, not worthy, alone and/or not taken into consideration, therefore we created a “strong me” image yet in reality it might not be quite as it may look. We might believe that being vulnerable makes us weak, yet we become strong by overcoming that identification of the adult and independent self that we are showing at the moment with the helpless little hurt child from the past.

We are all victimized to a certain extent. But when we react to a certain stimulus it means that that trigger (stimulus) touched a soft spot, brought a weakness into our awareness and that should be happily embraced as a huge potential for transcending past distortions which are plaguing our present and inevitably the future too. Therefore we shouldn’t point fingers outside to the stimuli(people or events), but see what is the issue that the trigger uncovered. So our reactions to those stimuli are unfolding a certain traumatic event(from childhood) that has been misinterpreted and/or swiped under the rug, and no matter what is that event, the idea is to break away from the victim mentality, knowing that we are definitely not victims of events or people but rather creators and we are supposed to take full responsibility.

Taking responsibility and accepting whatever is happening is an evolutionary step forward, and other, deeper distortions will come forth to be worked with as soon as we have worked the ones that are brought to our attention today.
If we choose not to, it’s fine, it’s our choice… Yet life might push people and events to trigger that soft spot until we either transcend it by accepting and realizing that only our limited perception and interpretation made it such a big deal, or until we will succumb under the external pressure and our inner resistance to change.

Change is inevitable, as certain as death and taxes, but awareness about the eternal changing nature of life and realization and acceptance of it will bring tremendous peace and wisdom.
