What’s the point?

Is there any reason to allow a multitude of thoughts to roam free in our awareness? Is it making any sense to lament something that happened in the past, or to wonder how things would have been if we had chosen a different approach?

Is there any reason to allow thoughts about future, when we were many times planning carefully things in our head yet when faced with that potential event we were planning in our thoughts, the whole plan and projection, everything might have taken a different turn, or the potential event failed to happen whatsoever.

Obviously on a thorough check, thoughts have no point. Whatever, whenever happened is already in the past, and it happened because it was the best choice and outcome that had to come to existence at that exact moment. Going to the past to extract the juice of it is a good thing to do, but the play of assumptions and projections of what could have been is useless and even more so, malignant.

So by realizing that, we realize the futility of feeling sorry for opportunities we didn’t take or apparent wrong turns that we made according to our feelings and influences we were under in that time.

“I should have done this and that”, “I should have said this or that” or “I shouldn’t have done it”, it’s as useless as crying for the spilled milk since undoubtedly it can’t be undone. But what I am trying to convey is even beyond that common understanding of the things stated above, more than that, I share my personal realization that everything is always perfect and every single element and event is exactly what needs to be there. And this can easily be observed after a period of time, looking back in retrospective. Everything is correct!

Imagine the free time and energy that we may save if the moment we observe ourselves being dragged by thoughts and feelings about the past, we just stop and realize that it couldn’t have been otherwise, and that it was the best choice and outcome at the time. Bam! we go back to the present moment.

It’s easy? yes and no. It’s easy when we are determined and when we managed to integrate this realization and it’s not easy if we are still dragged away by the unstoppable flow of thoughts that is continuously trying to divert and distract us from being in the present moment, creating a leakage of energy towards whatever the thoughts object is, be it past or future. Disregarding thoughts and knowing that everything is right; that’s when we preserve and enhance our energy and spiritual essence. That’s why every true spiritual master  has as a main recommendation towards those who they teach: staying in the now, being fully in the present moment, untouched by anything else, free from fantasy, and free from roaming in the past.

There’s a misconception about our human nature and that we are to dive deep into the illusion to the point of forgetting who we are and the purpose of the journey. We are here to dive deep indeed, but ideally, we should do it with awareness, mostly in the observer mode, transcending slowly even the observer into realizing the wholesomeness of the existence and that nothing is truly outside of us.
