Like the fetus is taken care of in the womb of the mother, as such we are continuously nourished and taken care of by Life (by the Almighty/Absolute/Brahman). In reality we are never missing anything, everything is provided. But the mind is the one that chooses separation, chooses ephemeral pursuits that are just transforming us into silly ant-like beings anxious and ever-working to see their silly desires fulfilled.
This state is due to allowing the mind to rule us, to advise, to fantasize. Let it rest. Hold yourself still!, not wanting, neither doing anything. The agents of the mind are the 5 senses. Mind itself is the agent of the illusion. Desires are born out of thoughts. Actions are born out of desires. The result is ignorance and uselessness and eventually death and rebirth into a perpetual game that happens only inside our minds.
Many scriptures warn people of the danger of pursuing anything in this realm. It’s all just fantasy. More so, it throws one in the whirlpool of the very duality. And since we crave, the “good” seems like vanishing in moments, whereas the “bad” looks like being eternal. It’s all just an illusion, self-created by allowing the senses at first to fix onto a being, an object, an idea…and then to many. Then the thought of “I should have that”; it all cascades into the willpower and action taking over and bringing something from the dream state (the idea/thought) to fruition into the material world. But the struggle, the pain that comes with that object of our desires is not worth. Even when we achieve that goal, that will not last long. Without realizing that everything is the same, we create another want, another goal in our eternal struggle to satisfy the senses. It’s a Sisyphus job, an eternal struggle that will have inevitably and indubitably the same result: pain and misery. A night of enjoying the love of the partner seems like a very minute fraction of a lifetime, while being apart for the same amount of time seems painful and long as the eternity itself. In the amazing scripture of Yoga Vasistha is written that this is how the world was constructed, so wise people can realize the futility of chasing the objects of their desires which in reality are not theirs since the true Self is just Being, forever observing and non-interfering, devoid of any joy or grief or any other similar example of dual experiences.
How about starting to count your blessings? Realize that you are taken care of, regardless of what you believe you might be missing at the moment. Everything is perfect. When we stop controlling life becomes a flow of events that are following a Divine mandate. All will be synchronized and brought to fruition as it was pre-planned. Our arrogance in believing that we know better what is good for us and pursuing this path is the path of self-destruction.
Look at a delicious piece of cake. So tasty, so sweet and yet how long can you enjoy it? 5-10 minutes? Then it adds to the struggle that your body is experiencing trying to keep you healthy, trying to fight the acidity, to keep you functioning. It affects the mind, the senses also it affects us on a very vibration level. After eating sweets there are so many unfortunate outcomes that we are unaware of, our mind and body become restless, our natural morale is dropping, unhealthy libido is gaining momentum and we dive into a lower level of being… Moments of ephemeral pleasure are transformed into lives of misery and pain. Is it worthwhile? It all can be extrapolated to all our cravings and desires. We sometimes cheat, lie, steal or do all sorts of things in order to achieve these ephemeral pleasures or things, and we are unawares that the price is too much to be worthwhile, and all this happens to keep us in bondage.
We run away from pains and we run towards “happiness”; it’s our little program running us from behind the scenes. Pain and pleasure, one more illusory than the other. When there’s no “want” everything is provided, everything is taken care of,we finally abide in our natural state of contentment. When you don’t want anything anymore, you stop the fantasy, the body is resting, healing and rejuvenating even whilst working or performing any activity.
This world is perfect for creating addictive personalities. We are all addicted to multiple things, feelings and we are full of desires. Try to slowly empty your existence of desires and the true knowledge will unfold within. Separation is an illusion. Unity is there at all times, yet whilst in the midst of the torment of thoughts and desires, the Unity is just a mere, abstract and fictitious concept. When we are emptying ourselves of “wants” and “needs”, life will give whatever is rightfully ours and we were unconsciously blocking by assuming that we know what we want, what is good for us.
